  In the high crime rate society, the punishments become crucial, and the issue whether the death penalty should be abolished or not is necessary to be discussed.  Although many people insist that death penalty ought to be abolished, I strongly believe that the punishment needs to be reserved because the penalty would deter people from committing crimes.  Some people think it harsh to serve a life in prison.  Nevertheless, the counterargument is that it makes criminals pay the ultimate price and sufferers could be appeased. In my opinion, this is the only way that the victims could be gratified.  In addition, no one can argue against the fact that if the penalty was reserved, the order in the society would be more peaceful because it rids society of menaces.  It is for all the above-mentioned reasons and more that I believe the death penalty should be reserved.

※Best of the semester - 2 - Michael's cliffhanger

  There is a man called Michael who is a professional athlete had won many prizes in various sports competitions.  However, “Accidents will happen.”  And he met with misfortune as he was on the peak of his athletic career – a car accident.

One day, he took a walk on the road. Suddenly, an uncontrollable lorry rushed toward him as fast as a rocket so that he had no time to dodge. At the moment, it hit him and his leg was trapped under the lorry.  To our disgust is that the driver abandoned him and ran away, and he was delay to send to the hospital.  What's worse, during an operation, the doctor imparted the situation to him that he must have amputated his leg which was focal necrosis; otherwise, it would cause other problems.  Based on that, all he could do was assent to the operation.  To our relief, he didn’t give up his athletic career and, consequently, he did his best to keep doing rehabilitation.

As the proverb goes, “The God helps those who help themselves.”  He, eventually, recovered after striving without cease to rehabilitation.  By virtue of his efforts, he beat all of the rivals and won first place at the Paralympics.

  Acton, having a population of 2,500, is a small town in Midwest.  It is a safe, quiet, and clean place to live; therefore, the majority of the residents has lived there for all their lives and been familiar with each other very well.  Nevertheless, as the proverb goes, "Happy days do not last long".  Last month, Stanley Manufacturing made a critical decision to open a large factory in Acton in order to bring more and more new people to the community, but some people are worried about the negative effects the new factory will generate on the town, and I am no exception.  As far as I am concerned, it will bring terrible problems such as environment pollution, aerial pollution, and even aquatic pollution.  Those will make a great impact on the area, no matter in the dwellers' health or local environment.  Culture, of course, is also no exception, there will have been changed while various new things are brought about.  Furthermore, discipline, in my opinion, will be influenced as long as exterior things have existed.  By those token, distinctly, I am strong against the factory's establishment; therefore, if the decision could have been altered, the place will keep its wonderful and quiet life.

  Getting married is a dream for every girl.  But do you know the effects behind it?  In my opinion, the first is I have to leave my parents, and establish a family.  Also, I can’t depend on my parents.  Instead, I would do everything by myself.  Additionally, all I should do is learn how to live with another person, coming from different family.  What's more, we might have children, and we have to take care of our children together. On the basis of that, I think I will learn a lot form it-maybe more patient.  In sum, it is for all the above-mentioned effects and more that I believe I will go through more and more different experiences.

  According to the occurrence, I analyze the cause which made the store close down.  To begin with, location is one of the crucial factors.  That is, the music store is on a small side street just outside of town; moreover, there is a shopping center that has two large music stores just far from 3 miles away.  On the other hand, the music type sold in a music store is also a key.  For example, most of the residents in the region mainly are over age 40;thus, both hip-hop and rock are the last types sold well─ maybe country music is an alternative.  Furthermore, the business times is from 1 to 5 p.m. every day except for weekend.  Most important of all, checks and credit cards are not accessible there, which is inconvenient for people who don't have cash on hand in advanced society nowadays.  In brief, as long as Michael Williams improves those faults above, I assure him that his music store will be a hit.

   Through a lot of trials, I make a crucial decision that I would get married with a man, who had seen me through my difficult times.  And what push me to make this significant decision which is relates to the rest of my life.  First of all, I would like to settle down and establish a family.  Also, I feel like living the rest of my life with the man, who is responsible and considerate. There is, additionally, no doubting that he could take care of my family and I with all his heart.  With having so many virtues, distinctly, he is the best candidate that I have ever met.

Although many people think that the dress code in the school is reasonable, I strongly deem that the regulation should be abolished because it is inconvenient for us, students.   According to the two resumes from people applying for being an English instructor, I have to choose the best one for our school.  After pondering for a long time, I selected Debra Fines, who comes from Philadelphia.  There are some comparisons between them.  First of all, in educational status, Debra Fines is an erudite who had ever studied for degrees of BA English, MA English, and PhD Linguistics; however, Lynn Whitnall had ever just studied a degree of BA Spanish. Next, in employment experience aspect, Debra Fines is more veteran than Lynn Whitnall.  In the last place, though Lynn Whitnall is fluent in Spanish, French, Japanese, I just would like to hire a person, who is expert in English.  As the mention above, it is why I employ Debra Fines instead of Lynn Whitnall.

 When it comes to popular entertainers on the music scene in Taiwan,  Jay Chou is one of them , and Lee Hom Wang is too.  Lee Home Wang and Jay Chou are alike in many ways.  For example, Lee Hom Wang is a singer, so is Jay Chou.  Also, Lee Hom Wang is clever at playing the piano;similarly, Jay Chou is as well.  In addition, not only is Lee Hom Wang a director, but Jay Chou is. For instance, Love In Disguise and Secret are their representatives respectively.  Last but not the least, both of them are excellent actors.  I think they are so gifted and versatile that they can stand firm in their field and comparing with each other.
